Big Brother's Nasty Nick now - divorce, pals with Brad Pitt and feud with Craig (1)

It's been 23 years since Nick Bateman caused chaos in the Big Brother house, but the scandal still haunts him to this day. The former senior broker, also known as ‘Nasty Nick’, was caught trying to influence nominations, breaking one of the show's biggest rules. As a result, Nick was removed from the house in disgrace.

Despite the controversy, Nick's stint on the first-ever Big Brother series was undeniably entertaining. Six million viewers watched as Craig Phillips, now the series winner confronted Nick about his actions in front of the nation. The 55-year-old said: "Basically, I have to say it, Nick, I am very disappointed in yourself. I not only feel but am quite positive and have got evidence that you’re plotting a very dirty plan on everyone in here". But since then, Nick's life has changed dramatically.

Life after Big Brother

Nick may have been booted out of the house, but he hasn't let that stop him from making a name for himself in the media world. After his scandalous stint on the show, Nick went on to pursue a media career, appearing on GMTV, Through The Keyhole, and Big Brother's Bit On The Side.

Nick also shocked fans when he was photographed alongside Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt at the Snatch premiere in 2000. The unlikely duo made for quite a pair, with Nick's reputation as a reality TV villain adding an extra layer of intrigue to the photo. Nick also turned his hand to writing and became a regular contributor to various publications. In 2001, he even published his own book, entitled Nasty Nick: How To Be A Right B******. And while Nick may have left the UK for a new life down under in 2013, he hasn't slowed down one bit. Nick now works as a freelance writer in Sydney, Australia, where he has continued to make a name for himself in the media world.

Nick has revealed the reasons behind his move down under in a recent interview with The Express. The former Big Brother contestant explained that his fame following his stint on the show led to a challenging lifestyle, where even a trip to McDonald's could be difficult due to his newfound notoriety.

He said: "One minute, no one knew me and the next everyone knew me; it meant that going into McDonald’s or a bar could be challenging. I understood this lifestyle couldn’t last forever, so I did a course in single-camera directing. But it was difficult finding work. It was a bleak, cold day in the English countryside in 2013 when I decided to make a new start for myself. If I didn’t do it now I never would. I moved to Sydney where I’m blessed with a beautiful country, blue skies, and a way of life I like. My marketing work involves social media for businesses – writing content and posting advertising."

Nick and Marriage

Nick has had his fair share of ups and downs in his love life. The reality TV star was married to fashion magazine writer Lynnette Peck. However, their marriage hit a rough patch in August 2012, and the couple reportedly split. Nick moved out of their home in Bembridge, on the Isle of Wight, a month later, according to The Daily Record.

But earlier this year, Nick seemed to have found love once again. He was seen at the premiere of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in Sydney with a woman by his side. In the photo, Nick looked dashing in a grey jacket over a white top, paired with white trousers detailed with zips. He completed his look with white sunglasses and a spiked hairstyle, along with a slight beard. Meanwhile, his female companion looked gorgeous in an animal print dress and tinted sunglasses.

Recent Controversy

Nick found himself in hot water once again in 2020 after a feud with fellow housemate Craig Phillips was reignited during a chance meeting in Australia. The pair, who famously clashed on the reality show in 2000, met up for a few hours while Craig and his wife Laura were travelling around the country.

However, Craig was left fuming after Nick allegedly told him "lie after lie" during their time together. He said: "The last person I saw was Nasty Nick. Laura and I went travelling around Asia and then went on to Australia - Sydney and Perth. I knew Nick was living in Sydney so I spent four or five hours with him over a couple of bottles of wine. Sometimes you can catch him when he’s a bit normal but because Laura was there it was lie after lie after lie!"

Nick responded to Crag's remarks in the publication by posting a comment on X. He tweeted: "It’s funny that the people you invite to your house to stay for free and take time out to see when they visit you in another country, are the ones to throw under the bus for a few pounds."
