Specialties: As a member of the Credit Union, you have access to member benefits including: a variety of products and services at competitive rates, the most up-to-date electronic services, as well as the security of your financial information. As a member, you are also an owner of the Credit Union which means you have a voice in how it is run through an elected, volunteer Board of Directors. Established in 1953. Vermont Federal Credit Union was founded in 1953 as the Burlington Postal Employees Credit Union and, just a short time later, was renamed to the U.S. Government Employees Credit Union of Chittenden County. Our connection to these roots remains strong as many government employees in Vermont are still loyal members of the Credit Union. In 1990, members voted to convert the Credit Union from a state charter to a federal charter and the Credit Union became Vermont Federal Credit Union in 1991. After a series of expansions and mergers, we became a community chartered credit union in 2001 which meant that membership was no longer limited to just government employees. Today, Vermont Federal Credit Union operates under a community charter, opening the possibility of membership to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in six Vermont counties including: Chittenden, Grand Isle, Franklin, Lamoille, Washington and Addison counties.
